Weather will change on the first of every month Seasons will follow those I see outside my window, so changing the first of every third month ;]
Spring; March/April/May Summer; June/July/August Autumn; September/October/November Winter; December/January/February
So. What was the weather like in Europe in the presence of glaciers? I'm going to explain by each IC area of the site ;]
North: Set it the northernmost part of Eurasia, you can walk right up to the enormous glacier wall here. As with everywhere in Thrive, the landscape is that of the Steppes. Vast grassland, almost completely void of trees. In the North, however, there are no trees whatsoever due to the cold weather all year round. In summer, it's windy, cold and desolate and little lives here. In winter, mammoths and woolly rhinos are plentiful due to the fact it doesn't snow [the glacier steals all the air's moisture all year round, so almost no snow here, just ice] and they can roam freely. Instead, cold pours down from the ice wall and dry, harsh winds of sub freezing temperatures terrorise the entire landscape.
East: Much like the North here, it's desolate, only slightly warmer and you have the chance of seeing an occasional stunted tree here or there. In the many valleys, though, it's sheltered and green. It can snow in these valleys in winter, unlike in the North, and when it snows it really does snow. Any snow landing on the plains, however, will be soon blown away or turn to ice. Summer and autumn are plentiful, and so is Spring once the rivers at the bottom of the valleys have finished flooding due to glacial meltwater. Large prey is easy to find here when the season is good.
South: The South has seasons much more normal to those of current Europe. it snows [quite heavily] in winter and is hot in summer. You can reach an inland sea here so don't be suprised if it's windy, in any season. An enormous amount of animals can be found on the lush grass alongside the river that runs through here; the lifeblood of the Southern land, which providing for a fair amount of trees in this area.
West: Again as with the South, the seasons aren't too terrible in the West. Its winters are the kindest and shortest out of all four but its summers can get terribly hot. There are forests to take cover in all year round. Don't be surprised if prey fizzles out a little in the height of Summer; not only is wildfire a real threat, but the grass dries up quickly due to the lack of Summer rainfall here.
Additional notes; + The soil in this time was 'permafrost'. This means in winter the ground is rock hard and in summer, when the ground has thawed to a foot or even a few feet down [barely thaws at all in the north], food or carrion can be buried to keep it cool.
+ Mammoths and Rhinos died out partly due to the fact they cannot survive in snow. The steppes were perfect for them as due to their large size, they cannot move in snow! They would live by the glacier in winter where the air is dry and on the plains in summer where they can graze. They moved north to drier ground at the first signs of snow.
+ Any other questions, let me know and I'll try to answer them as best I can o;
